Rigid Heddle Weaving Books

Rigid Heddle weaving books were rare when I first started weaving.

This list of books are books that are my go-to rigid heddle weaving books.

Getting Started

Hands-on Rigid Heddle Weaving by Betty Linn Davenport.  Known as the recommended book for learning to weave on a rigid heddle loom; it was the first book I purchased. Betty used a Beka loom in the book, so my first rigid heddle loom was a Beka loom.   This book is a little outdated but does contain the necessary instructions.  My copy of this book is in the red binder.  The book was so well used that it came apart and I had to punch holes in it and put it in a binder.

Inventive Weaving on a Little Loom by Syne Mitchell.  This book will advance you into warp-faced patterning, weft-pile weaving, weaving with fine threads, woven shibori, shadow weave, and the textural effects you can create with different yarns and with wire and conductive thread.

The Ashford Book of Rigid Heddle Weaving by Rowena Hart.  This book has more techniques and guidance on working with colors and creating garments.

Weaving Made Easy by Liz Gipson.  Liz has written several books and made several videos.  She is THE expert on rigid heddle looms.   She gives detail instructions.

Handwoven Home by Liza Gipson.  Again, Liz Gipson brings you lots of ideas and patterns for your rigid heddle loom.

Advanced Techniques

The Weaver’s Idea Book by Jane Patrick.  This book is considered a weave-structure book of patterns and techniques.  This book is for weavers who already know basic set up and weaving on a rigid heddle loom.  It is a great reference book for advanced weaving patterns.

Woven Style for the 15″ Rigid Heddle Loom by Tamara Poff.   Tamara combines weaving with knitting, sewing, or crochet to create beautiful garments.

What kind of reference library do you have?

  • Books?
  • Digital Books?

I collect both.
